Abstract

Plants interact continuously with diverse microorganisms living on and around their roots, leaves, stems, and reproductive structures. These microorganisms include bacteria, fungi, archaea, and other microbial groups that can influence nutrient availability, plant growth, stress tolerance, and disease resistance. Beneficial associations such as mycorrhizae and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria can improve nutrient acquisition and support plant development, while some microorganisms cause diseases that reduce agricultural productivity. Understanding plant-microbe interactions has therefore become an important part of sustainable agriculture. This paper examines nine major dimensions of plant-microbe interactions, including the rhizosphere, mycorrhizal associations, nitrogen fixation, plant growth-promoting microorganisms, disease interactions, nutrient cycling, stress tolerance, agricultural applications, and future prospects.
